28.6.17 New appointment I am pleased to be able to tell you that we appointed Mr Adrian MacLeod to the post of class teacher at Glenurquhart Primary on Monday this week. He will take the P1/2 class next session and will meet the children this afternoon when they move to their new classes. We look forward to welcoming him to join our team at Glenurquhart Primary.
19.6.17 P6-7 Transition Dance A wonderful time was had by all at the P6-7 dance on Friday night. It was lovely to see the children mingling between schools and getting to know each other. Everyone danced and had a super night.
19.6.17 P4-5 Football A massive congratulations to all P4-5 football stars who won their final league matches on Friday evening to become unbeaten league winners.
14.6.17 Rocky Monster Show WOW! is all I can think to say. All the children were absolutely fabulous last night. They acted their socks off and gave a truly wonderful performance. What stars we have at Glenurquhart Primary! We are all extremely proud of them! A big thank you to everyone for all their hard work and all who helped also.
14.6.17 Mud Kitchen A huge thank you to the Thorp family for the mud kitchen which they have hand made, painted and kitted out which was delivered to our school today. The children will have a wonderful time playing with this!
2.6.17 Tickets for “The Rocky Monster Show” Thank you to all those who returned permission slips and ticket requests today. Tickets are going fast for both performances so please return your ticket request on Monday if you have not already done so. For clarification: Primary School staff will accompany any children who are attending GOOSC after the performance on Monday 12th.
2.6.17 Glenurquhart Primary Sports Trophy Congratulations to Borlum, this year’s cup winners! Borlum won with 3, 435 points, Milton came 2nd with 2, 762 points and Lewiston came third with 2, 318 points. Well done the orange house!
31.5.17 Sports Day Many thanks to Mrs Woodhouse, Mrs Fraser and S2 volunteers for a very successful School Sports this afternoon. Thanks also to the many parents and grandparents who came along to support our youngsters. The boys and girls worked hard to earn house points at 12 potted sports stations. The winner of the House Groups Sports Trophy will be announced tomorrow! The pupils then had several races in their year groups. There was also time for a nursery race and parents races. Our boys and girls showed great team work, encouragement and determination this afternoon. Well done all! Thanks to Scotmid for the bottles of water and apples!
30.5.17 Sexual Relationship Workshop Thank you to all who came along to hear about our sexual health progression framework within school tonight. 29.5.17 Sports Day details
Just a reminder that Sports Day is on Wednesday this week. Parents should join us at the Primary school at 1pm. The events will take place on the sports field behind the High School.
Pupils should remember to bring PE kit, a light rain jacket, sunscreen and a hat! Water will be provided and pupils will also be given an apple and a treat at hometime.
Pupils can wear their normal PE kit – we will supply the pupils with a coloured bib in their house colours for the “potted sports” section of the afternoon.

29.5.17 Inter School Sports A huge well done to George, Sam, Ruairidh, Darci, Ewan, Iona, Sarah, Grace, Eilidh and Joseph for competing in the Inter School Sports on Saturday. We had a beautiful day and were delighted to receive medals; Joseph 1st in 600m and 2nd in long jump, Eilidh and Ruairidh both 3rd in shot putt, Iona 2nd in 150m, Eilidh 3rd in 600m and our relay team of Sarah, Darci, Ruairidh and Joseph came 2nd. I was truly proud of how everyone cheered their friends on, keenly supported them and wanted everyone to do well. They were all a credit to Glenurquhart. Well done! A big thank you to Mr Tree and Mr McGunnigle for helping in the long jump and high jump and to all the parents who helped supervise and cheer on the team.
26.5.17 Inter School Sports Good luck to all P6 and 7 children in the Inter School Sports tomorrow. Remember sun cream, sun hat, sunglasses, waterproof jacket, a good lunch and lots to drink. See you at the Bught Park at 9.15am or, by 11am for the younger entrants.
21.5.17 Spring Disco What a wonderful time was had by all at the Sring Disco on Friday night. A big thank you to all the parents who helped supervise, arrange hot dogs, man the tuck shop, apply tattoos and also to Mr Montague for running the very popular Nerf shoot out. A quick count on the night put the total raised at £342 towards Parent Council funds.
12.5.17 Tulloch Shinty Cup A huge well done to the school’s shinty team who played in the Tulloch Cup competition yesterday, drawing 3 games and losing 3 games. I’m told they played well and did the school proud! Well done!

10.5.17 Open Afternoon A big thank you to all who joined us for our Open Afternoon today. What a busy time we had! Our feedback has been really positive with parents and family enjoying seeing developments around the school and outside, sharing in work and the progress in learning. The children’s enthusiasm for sharing what they have been doing really shone through. Thank you for the ideas moving forward as well. We hope that in starting ongoing learning profiles next session, we will be able to enhance your involvement in your child’s learning journey.
31.3.17 GROUND FORCE DAY – CANCELLED Friday and Saturday – due to rain 🙁 We’ll hopefully reschedule after the holidays. Thank you and apologies to all those who turned up today. However, we made great work in re-organising room 2 to create our new ‘The Bubble’ nurture space and moving things into and out of the old Gaelic classroom. Your help was very much appreciated. Also, thank you to Mr and Mrs Thorp for their wooden seats, bench and mushrooms for our garden area.
30.3.17 Enterprising Maths Challenge Well done to Ewan, Hannah S and Scarlet for competing in the Enterprising Maths Challenge. This was a long day with lots of brain power required but, the children worked well as a team throughout and showed super resilience to keep going with the difficult maths problems. Thank you also to Grace for practicing alongside the children as a substitute.

24.3.17 Red Nose Day Thank you for your kind donations to Comic Relief charity. The children looked great dressed in red with the red noses today and enjoyed learning about why we are raising money and singing the ‘Put a nose on it’ song in assembly.
23.3.17 Euro Quiz Congratulations to Grace, Hannah G, Anna and Calum who represented Glenurquhart Primary today at the Euro Quiz heats in Millburn Academy. They have shown great commitment to learning all about various areas linked with the Europe theme and showed superb team skills, working together and agreeing the answers on the day. Out of 31 teams, Glenurquhart came joint 7th which is an excellent achievement. A big thank you to Sam for working alongside them to be our sub and Ms MacKenzie for all her help coming in to work with the children beforehand. Well done to Crown Primary also, who took the victory after a closely fought and tense decider round. They now go on to represent Highland at the Euro Quiz event in Edinburgh.

22.3.17 McRobert Cup Cross Country We ventured out in the snow and cold today for the cross country competition with 10 children from Primary 4-7. All did superbly well on a very mucky, slippy course. Each race had 160-190 competitors and many of our children finished in the top 100 or very close to this. They were a credit to the school with me being stopped at one point to be told how well behaved they were and what a joy it must be to have them in the school. A big thank you to Sarah Tree for all her time and efforts in training, Michael Thorp for his support today and all the parents and family who came along to support and cheer the children on. Well done Glenuruqhart Primary!
16.3.17 Baking Club Most of the children who signed up to baking club have now had a chance to take part. We had a super interest in this, with almost all the children keen to have a go. A big thank you to Mrs Russell and Mrs Cetiner for their help in running this. We hope to continue again next term and offer another chance to take part and slips will be issued in the coming days to gather names of those who are interested. We hope you have enjoyed sampling some of their cakes at home too.
9.3.17 Parent’s Night Feedback Thank you to all parents who engaged in our feedback session in the hall as part of parent’s night. We hope that you liked being able to see the work the school has been completing towards improvement this session and were able to provide feedback to some of the areas. Discussions with parents on the night were very positive and we hope to continue a similar theme for future parent meetings.
Similar questions will now be asked of the children and all the information collated to inform our improvement targets for next session and feedback to you.
Thank you also for the work done within families on our school aims. These have been lovely to look through and I will work with the Pupil and Parent Councils, staff and partners to agree our aims going forward.
3.3.17 Friendship Assembly Over the course of this term, the classes have been looking at the theme of Friendships as part of our Creating Confident Kids programme. They were tasked with creating a Friendship game that they then presented at assembly on Friday. We also said thank you to Miss MacDonald, our student who has been working with Primary 3/4 this term.
6.3.17 Parent consultation Highland Council are undertaking consultation with parents around their early learning and childcare needs for children aged 2-12. Please see the link below if you would like to contribute.
2.3.17 World Book Day What a super day we have all had, dressed in our onesies/pyjamas, sharing our favourite books and enjoying a hot chocolate, marshmallows and some den building (for P4-7) in the hall. It was great to welcome the nursery children up to join with P1 for the afternoon also. A big thank you to all our community partners and parents who came in to read to the different classes today. 24.2.17 World Book Day As detailed in January’s newsletter, the Charities and Celebrations Committee would now like to share some information with you about how we are planning to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday. The theme this year is “bedtime stories” so we are having a pyjama/onesie day! More details in their letter: World Book Day letter.
We are looking forward to welcoming several guest readers on the day, but we would also welcome any parents who’d be willing to share one of their favourite bedtime stories with a class.

16.2.17 Careers Fair – Thank you to Glen Urquhart High School for inviting us to their careers fair last night and for their warm reception. The exhibitors were super with a wide range of options available for children to find out about and ask questions of. It was great to see so many of our pupils taking up this opportunity.
15.2.17 Football Winter League – Congratulations to the Glenurquhart football team who have now finished the Winter football league in a superb 4th position. This is a great achievement!. A huge thanks to their coaches Dave Bell and Michael Thorp for their commitment and the progress made in team performances.
6.2.17 Residential Trip feedback – Thank you to those who returned their slips regarding the preferences around residential trips in the upper school. We had 13 returns which came back as a majority for remaining at Loch Insh with just P7s, every year.
I also gave the children in P4-7 these same choices today and a huge majority voted for the same preferences.
We will therefore go ahead with planning our next trip to Loch Insh for the P7s next year in September. More details to follow.
6.2.17 – Family Ceilidh– Thank you to all who supported our Parent Council Family Ceilidh on Saturday night. A superb time was had by all and an excellent total of £830 raised.

1.2.17 NEW RAFFLE PRIZES – We’ve had new prizes added to our list on the News page – The Clansman Hotel have very kindly donated 2 nights Bed and Breakfast and The Craigmonie Centre has donated a ticket for Blazin’ Fiddles in March. More tickets available from the office if required. REMEMBER to return your slip to let us know that you intend to come so, we can gauge food to cook. Thanks

25.1.17 Stramash Up
A huge well done to Primary 4 and 5 for their Burns videos – ‘The Amazing Highlands’ and ‘If I left the Highlands.’ It was wonderful to see them up on the big cinema screen at Eden Court on Sunday.
25.1.17 Kitchen Opening
Our new kitchen is now up and running. It has made a huge change to our hall and the children’s dining experience. A big thank you to Morgan Sindall contractors who are now working to finish our trim trail and front entrance path.
13.1.17 World of Work Assembly
Greg and Iain from Morgan Sindall contractors came into assembly today to explain to the children what had happened over the various periods of the new kitchen construction. They showed the children the plans and talked about how the kitchen had been built and the jobs involved.
The P6/7 children then shared some of their World of Work power points that they created after interviewing various people about their jobs. These will be published on the P6/7 blog to share with all. Well done to P6/7 for all their hard work and a big thank you to all who contributed.

23.12.16 Whole school Build a Snowman Drive
With so many of the children away this afternoon due to the poor weather conditions, we came together as a whole school to play Build a Snowman, similar to a Beetle Drive.
WHOLE SCHOOL CEILIDH
We then had a whole school ceilidh in the hall this afternoon with the Orcadian Strip the Willow, progressive Canadian Barn Dance, Grand Old Duke of York, Virginia Reel, Birdie Song, Superman and the Macarena to finish.
OPEN AND GOING AHEAD!
School is open this morning and our Christmas performance will go ahead with a 10am start in the church. We look forward to welcoming you there.
Children visit the kitchen
Today all the children got the opportunity to see round the kitchen build. They loved getting to wear the hard hats and yellow jackets and some of the comments included, ‘This is awesome!’, ‘You’ve broken the walls!’, ‘There’s writing on the roof.’
16.12.16 Christmas jumper and Christmas lunch day
What a fabulous turn out of different Christmas jumpers, tops, hats and decorations we had today. The celebrations committee have counted the funds and we’ve raised £100 for Save the Children.

We also had our Christmas lunch today, which everyone had great fun at. We were delighted to even get a surprise visit from Santa!
09.12.16 Bullying Assembly Follow-up
We had our follow-up assembly today to show all that we had been learning about Bullying over the last few weeks. P1 and P2/3 looked at what if feels like when bullying happens:
P4 and P5 focused on the role of the witness or bystander who can make bullying situations worse or better:
P6/7 looked at all areas of Bullying, with a focus on considering why people engage in bullying.
All the children learn that there are ways to help stop bullying behaviour in school and the main one is to TELL an adult so they can help. If the children TELL, they will be listened to and we will work together to make it better.
5.12.16 Christmas Lights Switch On
Congratulations to Hannah Stebbings and Anna Young who won the competition to design and make a wreath and had the opportunity to turn on Drumnadrochit Christmas lights tonight. Thank you to all those who came out to support, to Pat Veach for organising it and her donations of tablet and to Ness Deli for keeping us warm with drinks and treats.
30.11.16 Sponsored Walk
We had a super day for our whole school sponsored walk today. The P1-3 children walked the lower loop round the bottom of Craigmonie Woods and the P4-7 children climbed the top to the rock. Everyone was absolutely super and had a great morning. Please can we now ask that you help the children to collect their sponsor money and pass it into school?

29.11.16 Kitchen Progress
Today I was shown round the kitchen extension. Everything is really coming on, with the main building nearly complete and finish times now estimated for the 18th January.
10.11.16 Great Glen Football League
Congratulations to all the children who took part in the Great Glen Football League. It was a closely fought contest, coming down to the last few games with Glenurquhart B team winning the cup. All the children who took part have had personal achievements throughout the league and I have been very proud of them. A big thank you to Mr Bell and Mr Thorp for their on-going help and support and to Mr Peers at Kilchuimen Primary for organising everything and their warm welcome.
10.11.16 – Scottish Governance Review – Empowering Teachers, Parents and Communities to Achieve Excellence and Equity in Education
This governance review seeks your views on how education in Scotland is run including, who should take decisions in relation to the education of children and young people and how funding can be made fairer. It also asks about the support teachers and practitioners need to do their jobs well and how this can be improved. I spoke briefly about it at Parent Council last night and encouraged parents to look at the paper and add their opinions to the consultation. There is also a ministerial engagement event on 28th November from 10-12.30 in the Drumossie Hotel which parents can attend – Register here

31 October: OUR NEW MOTTO AND VALUES
Out of the 15 values discussed – see below, the top 6 values chosen for our school were:

As well as this, families were given the opportunity to nominate a school motto in the last newsletter. Many thanks for all the entries to this. The winning motto, suggested by the Thorp family, has been voted by the staff as:

Our focus this term will now concentrate on reviewing our school aims.
7 October: VALUES
Today the P6/7 class presented the work they have completed on looking at the values which we might adopt as a school. The whole school then voted on the values they felt were important. The results were as follows:

7 October: Feelings Assembly
Over the course of this term, the children have all been looking at different feelings in their classes. They were challenged to produce a poster on a certain feeling for presenting at assembly today. Can your child(ren) tell you more about what their class were looking at?
6 October: Football league
A huge well done to all the children who took part in the first match of the Great Glen Interschool Football League today. They played excellently and ended the day with Glenurquhart Team B in lead position and Team A joint second. I was proud of their sportsmanship and consideration for the other teams. It also gave less experienced members of our team to have the opportunity to compete and recognise their own achievements as part of this. Well done all and a big thank you to Michael Thorp and Dave Bell for helping with transport, supervision and the organisation of this.

09 September: Glenurquhart Football Club Awards
On Friday evening Glenurquhart FC enjoyed a social evening at the Benleva Hotel to celebrate all their achievements during the 2015 – 2016 season. All players were presented with a medal to acknowledge their excellent work for their teams and the following special awards were presented:

P6/7 Most Improved Player: Ruairidh Broadley
P4/5 Player of the Year: George Ballantyne
P4/5 Most Improved Player: Owin Martin
