Goblin Kit Car
This year as part of our Pupil Equity Funding we purchased a kit go-cart for the children to build together and further develop their STEAM learning as well as their skills in curiosity, problem solving, social skills and imagination. We hope to keep you up to date of our progress below……
A big thank you to Gary MacKintosh, H.I.S. who has provided a large box of tools required for our build!
We continued our kit car build today and look how far we’ve got. It’s helped having a print out of the instructions!
Today the children ensured all the work they had done previously was secure by tightening the bolts and preparing for the front wheels to go on (hopefully next week.) It’s getting lots of excitement around the school.
Over the last two weeks we’ve worked to get the wheels on and the steering column. We’ve also had to tighten up the bolts and secure the frame. All parents were delighted to see our progress at our recent parent meetings.
Our kit car now looks like it will go! With four wheels and a steering column all built up. This week, we had a few more spanners so were able to tighten up the bolts, check the instructions and work together to make real progress.
This week we put the pins in the wheels axles and finished securing the steering column. Next week we’ll begin to look at the breaks.
Today we assembled the brake caliper and throttle.
We assembled the motor cage that houses and protects the motor today. There were lots of fiddly bits to attach and tighten.
It was all about the wiring today. Not long to go now – just the motors and the seat to complete!
Today we started to build the seat and put the motor in the cart.
This week we connected the drive belt. We also attached the motor cage. This involved tightening some very fiddly bolts. We are now starting to think about riding the go-kart. Helmets at the ready!
Today the seat, roll cage and seat belt were fitted. All the bolts were tightened and checked. We are now nearly finished with the build and hope to be able to run the car in the next few weeks.
Today we connected up the batteries and saw our car car running for the first time! It was very exciting!
We are delighted to have been able to have a go in our go-kart build today. The children involved had a great time, testing the kit car round the playground. They have made a fabulous job of their build, learning various skills including those related to STEM careers as well as, problem solving, team work and sharing. Well done all involved!
